About Us
It was on the holy day of Navarathri in the humble cowshed of ‘GuruKripa’ house that the Balakara Sharada Samithi was born in 1967 in Urva Chilimbi in Mangaluru. The ‘Abhimanyu’ Shaka of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh was the motivating force behind the establishment of the Samithi. This event was a testimony to the reverence and piety of the few youngsters who had joined together to establish this Samithi which is now in its 57th year. These youngsters were guided by the elders with experiential inputs on holding poojas and other religious rituals connected with the Sharada Mathotsava. The Samithi organised Bhajan sessions and various other religious functions well attended by the people of the locality.
Soon, due to the continuous mentoring and guidance of the elders the Samithi began holding the Sharada Mahotsava in a grander scale. The Photo of the Sharada Matha was replaced by a bigger than life size idol and the idol was named ‘Balakara Sharade’ The Samithi also got bigger and renamed as ‘Balakara Shri Sharada Mahotsava Samithi’. Since then the Sharada Mahotsava Samithi has grown from strength to strength and attained the full form of an organisation and successfully instilled many virtues in the people of Chilimbi.
Philanthropists of the area have donated a plot of 2.5 cents in the middle of the Chilimbi town where the imposing building of the Sharada Nikethana now stands. The devotees of Mangaluru and from other far flung places have generously donated for bringing up this building. The foundation stone for this building was laid in 1996. The Sharada Nikethana has spurred many social and religious activities to the delight of the local devotees.
